I've always been fascinated by old city centres because that's where the real beauty of a country/culture lies. Stockholm has a beautiful old town called Gamla Stan - quite small for my liking but very beautiful.
Gamla Stan was founded in 1252 and is one of the best preserved old city centres in Europe. Stockholm has more than 70 museums (say whaaat!) and also has the world's largest spherical building!
Stockholm reminds me a lot of Italy, simply because of the pastel coloured buildings, narrow and pebbled streets. It looks a lot like Verona, or even Rome and actually has more Italian restaurants than traditional Swedish! Feels warm and romantic when you walk through the old city.
On the other hand, once you leave Gamla Stan, the city becomes a bit industrial. Lots of road works around the old town that unfortunately make the view a bit more ugly. Anyway, that is my personal impression only.
Bellow are several photos taken in Gamla Stan from my point of view, enjoy!
